It’s about 5 metres tall. We live in Dunedin. Any tips?
My Cabbage trees out the front of my driveway are not doing so well (2 years old ) What fertiliser do you recommend
I suggest you use Nitrophoska Blue. Apply to the surface and around the dripline at a rate of one tablespoon per plant.
This fertiliser is an excellent general garden fertiliser. I would only recommend applying on the surface after planting, if you place in the hole when planting it may burn. Also try not to apply to foliage as this will also burn.
Natives - Can you tell me the best way to remove flax bushes that have grown too large for my garden?
There is no easy way to get rid of flax bushes. The best way is to dig them out with a small digger.
Natives - Several of my hebes have died recently for no apparent reason, they seem to be dying from the top down, what should I do?
Hebes don’t like high phosphate fertiliser for they are shallow rooting plants. If you have fertilised lately this could be the reason they are dying. I would recommend using an organic fertiliser or recycled animal droppings in the future.
Stop! Before you drain away recent rain from your wet, boggy garden, consider using it to your advantage. Winter is the perfect time to create a stunning native wetland and attract native and introduced birds back to your garden.

Mulch. As the weather warms up everything in your garden will take off – including weeds. Apply mulch and you’ll prevent the light getting to your weeds and germinating.
